Be Recognized Glossary
Reference these definitions to better understand recognition programs, award types, and nomination features.
A
Admin – User with permissions to configure programs, budgets, and recognition features.
Admin Gear – Settings icon in the top-right corner that opens configuration menus and includes access to admin tools.
Announcements – Company-wide or targeted updates posted to the recognition wall. Announcements can be pinned to stay at the top of the feed for visibility. Users who opt in to notifications will also receive announcement alerts.
Approval Queue – Tool where managers and admins review and approve nominations. The Approval Queue appears as a widget on the main wall and is also accessible as a dedicated page within the admin tools (Settings icon).
Applause – Quick reaction option to engage with recognition posts.
Award – Formal recognition tied to achievements or milestones. Awards consist of an Award Level (the selection of redeemable items an employee can order) and an Award Provider (the technical link between recognition activity and redemption that sets the redeemable value).

Be Celebrated – Feature for shared digital cards marking service anniversaries.
C
Certificate – Printable and customizable digital award document that can be issued with or without an associated award.
Comments – Written responses to recognition posts that can include threaded replies.
Custom eCard – Admin-designed recognition card available for all users.

Dashboard – Visual display of recognition trends, team activity, and metrics.
Directory – Searchable employee list with contact information and organizational structure.
Direct Reports View – Direct Reports View – Dashboard filter showing recognition activity for employees reporting directly to a manager. Depending on roles and permissions, this view may include only direct reports or extend to all direct and indirect reports.
E
eCard – Digital card sent to recognize colleagues using pre-designed templates with custom messages. Typically used for recognition that may not align with core values or awards, such as weddings or retirements.
Engagement Leaderboard – Ranking of employees by recognition activity.
Expiration – The date when unused points or unredeemed awards expire. Expiration details for your program can be found in your account settings or award notification emails.

Filters – Tools that allow the Wall or Directory to display information only for employees who meet specific criteria, such as department, location, or role.
Following – A personalized list of employees and organizations configured by each user to stay up to date on recognition activity for the people and teams they engage with most.

Group Recognition – Recognition sent to multiple individuals or teams at once, depending on your role and/or permissions.
I
Indirect Reports View – Dashboard view showing recognition activity across broader reporting chains. Depending on roles and permissions, this may include direct reports, indirect reports, or both.
Integrations – Connections with external tools like HRIS systems (via SSO), Microsoft Teams, or other workplace platforms.
IT Administrator – Role managing SSO, provisioning, and secure platform access.
L
Level Group – Collection of related recognition levels grouped together on the Give Recognition page. Typically used for special use cases or program-specific workflows.
M
Manager Dashboard – Manager-only view of team recognition, benchmarks, and reminders.
Manager User Code – The unique ID (usercode) of an employee's direct manager. When provided through the user upload, this ID creates the relationship between an employee and their direct manager. Employees may have more than one direct manager.
Milestone Award – Recognition for tenure, such as service anniversaries.

Nomination – Employee-submitted recognition request awaiting approval.
Notification – Alert delivered to users via email, in-app notification, or mobile push notification (if opted in) to inform them of recognition activity, approvals, or program updates.
Notification Center – Panel showing recent recognition, awards, and updates.

Points – Currency awarded for recognition, redeemable for rewards.
Points Boosting – Adding extra points to existing recognition.
Points Funding – Budgets assigned for awarding points.
Points Upload - Bulk distribution of points across large groups via file upload
Profile Settings – User options to update personal details and visibility.

Recognition Feed (Wall) – Main platform area displaying recognition posts and activity.
Recognition Levels – Predefined award categories configured by your organization to align with company values, such as High 5, Employee of the Month, or Above and Beyond.
Recognition Story – Written explanation for why recognition is given.
Recognition Workflow – Approval path tied to recognition levels or categories.
Reports – Exportable data on points, anniversaries, and recognition trends.

Service Anniversary – Tenure milestone celebrated with awards and messages.
Skin Settings – Customization options for logos, banners, and platform colors.
SSO (Single Sign-On) – Login with existing credentials from providers like Microsoft or Okta.

Teams Integration – Feature enabling recognition inside Microsoft Teams.
Tutorials – Guided instructions on using Be Recognized features.

User Data Visibility – Admin controls that determine which employee data fields are visible to different user roles within the platform.
User Management – Admin section for uploading users, adjusting profiles, and generating login letters.
